Thymalin is a mixture of short protein fragments obtained from the thymus gland of cattle. It is studied as an agent that may restore immunity weakened by age; in a long-term follow-up of older adults, mortality was about half as high.
Polypeptide complex from bovine thymus. Contains low-molecular-weight peptide fragments: thymopentin-like peptides + thymosins. Not a single molecule — a mixture of bioactive fragments.
Khavinson's No. 1 geroprotector. A 6–8-year follow-up of 266 older patients: mortality was reduced 2.0–2.1-fold vs the control group. Normalizes T and B lymphocytes, stimulates hematopoiesis, and restores immunity after stress and infections.
Normalizes the CD4+/CD8+ ratio and Th1/Th2 balance. ↑proliferation of bone marrow cells. ↑synthesis of the cytokines IL-2 and IFN-γ. ↑antioxidant enzymes (SOD, catalase). Restores the immune response in chronic stress and inflammation.
Studies used 5–10 mg IM or SC once daily for a course of 5–10 days; maintenance courses 2–3 times a year. The solution was prepared with 1–2 ml of bacteriostatic water.
Level B Human observational data. There are studies in humans, but they are small, uncontrolled, or cohort studies. The data are encouraging but need confirmation. Long-term cohort study (6–8 years). Russian scientific base.
⚠️ No Level A RCTs. Most data come from Khavinson's laboratory (Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, RAS). Research only (not a prescription drug).
Research peptides are laboratory reagents (Research Use Only). They are not medicines and are not intended for use in humans or animals.
